The Constant Campaign

by: Rob "EaBo Clipper" Eno

Sat Mar 17, 2007 at 17:21:09 PM EDT

We need to be vigilant.  The "Constant Campaign" is back.  Deval Patrick has announced that he is ravamping devalpatrick.com.  From my email box today.

Friends,

Together, we ran a campaign about getting people to check back in, to change politics and to see the common stake we have in each other and our government. And while we accomplished much during those two years, we also agreed that our mission only started on the day Deval Patrick was inaugurated. We agreed that if we weren't willing to do the hard work after the campaign our ideals would only exist as ideals.

As part of our efforts, we are re-launching the Deval Patrick Committee. We hope that you will join the governor and supporters from across Massachusetts at an event in Boston where we will unveil the future of our grassroots organization.

The event will be held at the Boston Latin School Gymnasium on Saturday, March 24th at 2:00pm. The school is located at 57 Avenue Louis Pasteur, Boston. More details are below.

It is free and open to the public; however, we ask that you RSVP, which you can do so via email to march24@devalpatrick.com.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, the A-team is back in charge of the Patrick administration.  We better take notice.  We need to be vigilant and we need to have concise, easily understood answers to their positions.  I believe we are ending our eight weeks of bliss with a screw up every other day.  Just be thankful he gave us those eight weeks to point to.  It is political capital we must use judiciously.

I admit (0.00 / 0)
I admit outside of changing diapers, reading Dr. Seuss, and no cable my only other interest is being a political junkie. But who are these people who can devote year round to politics. Lots of people can be informed and vote, but between the lobbying, rallies, and feel good activism there is no way average people have the time for this or compete with it.

I guess it is the more liberal in me, but I'm all for campaign finance reform if it has come to this.

No exploratory committess can be created before nine months of an nomination/election.

No political donations higher then 100 dollars. I know I don't have 1000 dollars to throw around. Do you?

Only individuals who are citizens of the state/town or district can donate.  No outside interest groups. Not even the candidate's grandmother.

Renee,  I am pretty much politically active year round.  For some of us its just in our blood. I'm one of them.

EaBo Clipper , forgot to add (0.00 / 0)
from a previous exchange.... thank you for your diligence and attention to detail.
I would also add that I( as many others here, I'm sure) are extremely proud of your decorum and excellent counterpoints on the opposition's home field (BMG)..well done.  The "principals" there are also "class people" and acknowledge opposition with 'class'  ..thanks again for representing the conservative viewpoint in such a difficult and often hostile environment.

No offense, but what was this thing about spending more time with his family. (0.00 / 0)
His wife is depressed and exhausted. We understand. He wanted more flexibility with his schedule. We understand. He wanted to limit public appearances on the evenings and weekends. We understand. He wanted respect for his privacy. We understand.

Now with his first free weekend, he is making a public appearance to relaunch his campaign site while he skips out on his appearances that are required by his job. Do the citizens of Massachusetts have 'gulible' written on our forehead? Sorry I have to RSVP with a no, I have a child's birthday to attend with my daughter, thanks for the invite one short week in advance Gov. Patrick.

Murray to help out as governor assists wife

By Lisa Wangsness and John C. Drake, Globe Staff  |  March 12, 2007
"Governor Deval Patrick will continue leading the government but will delegate some of his work to Lieutenant Governor Timothy P. Murray and to his Cabinet, Murray said yesterday. The announcement came one day after Patrick said he would work a more flexible schedule to spend more time with his wife, Diane, who is suffering from exhaustion and depression.
"We'll have a staff meeting tomorrow, and my sense is the governor is going to continue to be active," Murray said in Worcester, where he was attending the St. Patrick's Day breakfast and roast at the Elks Lodge. "There may be some things that he passes off to me and the Cabinet, but he's going to be active and involved, and he's the leader of this government."
Murray said Patrick had revealed to him Friday that the governor would need to shift his focus from some of his political responsibilities to spend more time with his family."

If Gov. Patrick wanted to spend March 24th at his second home in the Berkshires to get away and reconnect with wife I would understand, but this I do not.
