Possible Republican Blowout?

by: SteveB

Mon Jan 18, 2010 at 08:30:28 AM EST

On Morning Joe this morning Mike Barnicle stated that he had been talking to Suffolk University pollers who had been canvassing in Massachusetts last night. They were working specifically in bellwether areas of the state to try and get a final read on the mood of the state in terms of the Brown/Coakley senate race.

The word he got was that Scott Brown was ahead by double digits. Is this the makings of an historic blowout? What will that mean for administration's agenda? The 2010 election cycle? The future of the the Democratic stranglehold on Massachusetts politics? Interesting questions we just may get a chance to answer this year.

Intrade at 65:35 for Brown.

Win or lose, you must hand it to the Brown campaign with the way it's been building huge momentum right to Tuesday

Moving up... (0.00 / 0)
UPDATE

Brown: $67
Coakley: $36

Brown can't be that far ahead...... (0.00 / 0)
We have to incorporate the Chicago Political Machine fudge factor that Obama brings.  The paid SEIU and ACORN will be voting as dead people, long since moved people, etc.  The polls need to show Brown up by 20 before I feel safe against the machine.....

You're Right... (5.00 / 1)
He will need to win by a landslide to compensate for the cheating, the fake votes, the bullying, etc. Every registered man, woman and dog will need to show up and vote for Brown. But that may just happen.

It's like one poster said: Brown supporters will low-crawl for miles just for the opportunity to cast a vote for this man. The dedication is that strong. So he has a real shot at this. Which is why Intrade has him winning.

Coakley, doesn't have anything like that kind of support. People actually DISLIKE her. Intrade had her trading at almost $100 at one point and now she is below $40. Brown began trading at $10 and rose above $70 in a matter of days.

Again, you're right. But there is good reason to be very hopeful.

Word Of Warning .. (5.00 / 1)
Bev Harris at BBV, someone who is essentialy a non partison election watchdog, is sending out warnings about the "vote in person absentee ballot" initiative.
In her opinion, and in mine, it is dangerous to have moved in this direction.
The old system of mailing out ballots to registered addresses was way better than this new system where piles of ballots arriving in person, dropped off by whomever, are sitting in 400 different municipalities for unknown amounts of time, with zero security or checks.
Just a heads up.

I voted at city hall... (0.00 / 0)
...in person.  I signed the application.

The other thing is the election commissioner knows who I am, by name.  If I tried to vote as someone else he would instantly know that I was committing fraud.

I don't think he knows everyone though, and he's not always in the office.

At the polls, or at city hall, I think an ID should be presented to vote, no matter who you are.

Are you kidding me? (0.00 / 0)
No offense, but maybe my state attorney should sue your state attorney. Because technically, your election laws effect our state. And if your officials are being derelict in their duties, then my state should be able to sue for gross negligence and election fraud. Please do not take this the wrong way. It especially effects you, but it effects everyone else in the country as well. And if your officials aren't even securing ballots...

You should call Hannity. He would have a field day.

Massachusetts (0.00 / 0)
doesn't require you to have positive identification to vote.

You fill out the application, and get your ballot.

I wasn't saying that I didn't have to show ID because he knew me.  I was saying that nobody does, regardless.

When was the last time you saw someone asked for an ID at the Polls?  I'll answer that for you...  Never.  (at least in MA).

Nobody was negligent in my EC office because they were following the rules.

My post was to highlight the need to change the rules to combat fraud.

Another gentleman was in the office at the same time I was, and he was treated the same way.

Not Created Equaly (0.00 / 0)
IMO, not all election commisioners are created equaly either. Having over 400 different locations is an extreme risk. If we insist on going forward in this manner than I think the number of locations where completed ballots are "stored" should be narrowed down considerably.

In the words of Gold Leader - "Stay on target!" (0.00 / 0)
Whatever the case may be with the polling, Brown supporters must continue to work very hard.

With polling like this the tendency is to start to relax. All of us in the Brown camp need to redouble our efforts. Talk to all of your friends and neighbors, volunteer for the campaign, donate to the campaign, do whatever you can to keep the momentum going in our direction.

This is an historic vote locally and a tremendously important vote nationally. We owe it to ourselves and to our country to do whatever we can to help Scott win.
