Think of the millions of dollars that have already been committed to making this happen though (yikes).

I had a feeling it would go to Rio....Have the Olympics ever been held anywhere in S America?  Don't think so.  What will be weird is having the seasons exactly reversed.  Are we going to watching the Summer Olympics in the winter of 2016?

Hosting the World Cup in 2018/2022 is more important (0.00 / 0)

It is a shame that Chicago lost out on the bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Conservatives should not be excited about this.

The problem with the hype over hosting the Olympics is that they only showcase a city and not an entire country. The World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world and anyone who doesn't realize this is a fool incapable of looking beyond their navel. If the United States wins the bid to host the 2018 World Cup it will benefit the country as opposed to just a city. Boston, New York, Chicago, Washington, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Etc. Ever major city in the country will benefit.
