Deval's job loss continues to grow.

by: Mike "DD4RP" Rossettie

Fri Jul 17, 2009 at 11:05:28 AM EDT

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released it's state-by-state economic data for the month of June today.  Massachusetts unemployment rose from 8.2% in May to 8.6% in June.  This 0.4% increase was worse than the national increase of 0.1%, worse than any other New England state, and 40th nationally overall.  While we are in a national and international economic recession, under one party Democratic rule Massachusetts continues to do one of the worst jobs at handling the recession.

Since January of 2007 when Deval Patrick became Governor and joined the Democratic super majorities in the state legislature unemployment has risen from 4.6% to 8.6%.  137,506 people have been added to the list of unemployed and Massachusetts has shed 134,442 net jobs.  Massachusetts all time high was 10.9% in January, 1976.

Just wait until Deval's tax hikes go into effect.

MORE BELOW THE FOLD....

Mike "DD4RP" Rossettie :: Deval's job loss continues to grow.
Mississippi had the best month where unemployment dropped by 0.7%!  In my opinion Gov. Hailey Barbor (R) should get more buzz as a potential 2012 nominee.  The 2nd best state was Vermont where unemployment dropped by 0.3%.  Gov. Jim Douglas (R) was re-elected with 56.3% of the vote in 2006 during a tough political climate for all Republicans.  Sen. Patrick Leahy is up for re-election in 2010.

While the rest of us are on hard times, the Lowell Sun says Beacon Hill insiders and political hacks are doing just great on our dime.

The state payroll, in fact, has grown by about 2,200 employees since the recession came to Massachusetts last fall, leaving roughly 98,278 workers dependent on the state for a paycheck, according to payroll records that include the University of Massachusetts and other public colleges.

I think that picture should be a 30 second add.  No sound...then picture goes to black and the phrase "Need we say more" appears.

What I would like to see are some corrected stats, what is the unemployment in the private sector. What is it, as much as one in ten in this state is government employed or related. How many are under employed, as much as twenty percent? Anyone know the current numbers on this?

Last I heard (0.00 / 0)
With "unemployment" (which can only be measured by people actually getting benefits), underemployment, people who have run out of benefits, it's creeping toward 20%.   I'm not sure the numbers are indicative of those who have had their hours or benefits reduced.

I had a post about this a while ago.

This was when the May numbers came out.  Back then it was 16.4%, but the report does indicate that it doesn't include "furloughed" workers....makes me think it doesn't account for those who have had hours reduced.

I think it's very difficult to measure people who have just decided to "sit out" if they can, those who become self employed, or those who have exhausted their benefits.

On the whole a very ugly picture.

I'd be curious what the difference between private and state/municipal workers is too.

Does BLS publish a measure of underemployment?

Because of the difficulty of developing an objective set of criteria which could be readily used in a monthly household survey, no official government statistics are available on the total number of persons who might be viewed as underemployed. Even if many or most could be identified, it would still be difficult to quantify the loss to the economy of such underemployment.

There is still more to be done (1.00 / 1)
Many thousands of people still draw unnecessary paychecks from biotech firms and insurance companies and financial bubbles.  The goal should be to have as few people working at unsustainable, bubble-driven jobs as possible.

Greater words (0.00 / 0)
of lunacy are hard to find.

Everyone who holds a job Johnny-lunatic doesn't approve of must quit their Furher-deemed-worthless jobs and report to the nearest government re-training facility for re-education in a manual labor field pre-approved by the Furher....of recycling because the Furher ahs deemed you irrelevant.

Yeah...nobody needs any treatments for any diseases that my booga booga biotech generates.  Rabies?  Screw 'em.  HCV?  Screw 'em.  ALS?  Screw 'em.  Tetanus/Diptheria vaccines?  Screw 'em.

Go to a hospital, get put on a broad spectrum antibiotic and get an opportunistic nosocomial infection of Clostridium difficile???  Gonna slough off and shit your intestinal lining from the 2 toxins produced....but screw you!!

The lunatice Furher gives you the thumbs down.
