In the rush to measure Charlie Baker’s Election Day coat-tails, MassINC overlooked some very bright spots for the GOP in the toughest of places. Two Republicans, David D’Arcangelo and Craig Spadafora, won two of the three at-large city council seats in Malden, finishing second and third respectively.
D’Arcangelo prevailed even though he opposed the Community Preservation Act which voters passed yesterday by a 3 to 2 margin.
D’Arcangelo ran a campaign based on strengthening the local economy, ensuring public safety and keeping taxes low.
The D’Arcangelo campaign should serve as a model for Republicans running in nonpartisan elections in major gateway cities.
