Chris Christie, Please Stay Home

Numerous media outlets are reporting that Chris Christie is coming to Massachusetts tomorrow for the inauguration of Charlie Baker.  He should just stay home.

The Governor of New Jersey is an ethical train wreck that would be more at home in the legislature of Massachusetts than chumming around with a governor-elect that pledged to change the way business is done on Beacon Hill.

Christie’s latest ethical flap comes as it is being reported that Chris Christie has been getting all expenses paid trips to Cowboy’s games, and has been doing favors for Jerry Jones in return.

Less than two years before Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones paid for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s tickets and travel to NFL games, government documents show Christie personally pushed the Port Authority to approve a lucrative contract for a firm part-owned by Jones. Christie nonetheless accepted the gifts from Jones, despite New Jersey ethics rules barring gifts to public officials from persons or entities that those officials “deal with, contact, or regulate in the course of official business.”

On March 19, 2013, Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a press release announcing their selection of Legends Hospitality LLC to operate the observation deck on the top floor of One World Trade Center. The next day, the Port Authority board — which is appointed by Christie and Cuomo — specifically cited the governors’ announcement in voting to approve the contract for the company, which is jointly owned by the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and Checketts Partners Investment Fund.

That is not the only extent of the Christie administration’s ethical failures, that go far beyond a bridge shutdown.

He has been allowing many employees to double dip as they are collecting pensions.  His office has “blacklisted” news organizations who shine the light on his adminstration. There are many more stories.

It would be best for the incoming Governor if Christie just stayed home.
