To the Editor:
I don’t know State Rep. Dennis Rosa personally, but I am sure he is a kind and decent man. My issues lie entirely with how he votes.
When Dennis Rosa first took office, in 2009, local aid to Leominster was nearly $50 million. This past year, Leominster’s total was approximately $46.5 million, yet Rep Rosa has voted for each of the six budgets proposed during his three terms in office. In four of those budgets, Leominster’s local aid was cut. I think most voters will agree this is a strange definition of ‘increasing’ local aid. Indeed, everyone in Leominster has seen their property taxes increase as a direct result of Rep. Rosa’s votes.
With regards to indexing the gas tax to inflation, Rep Rosa has a lot of company. With so many State Representatives claiming to have been against this affront to democracy – literally taxation without representation – how did it ever become law? Rep Rosa and his colleagues could introduce legislation to repeal the undemocratic indexing of the gas tax tomorrow, but they don’t. Their silence speaks volumes.
Finally the argument for implementing Obamacare is the most perplexing of all. It is OK, supporters contend, because supposedly the federal government will reimburse the Commonwealth 90 cents on the dollar. So if the failed implementation of a new Health Connector wastes $1 billion that’s ok because we’re really only wasting $100 million? Does the Representative not realize wasting Uncle Sam’s money hurts Massachusetts taxpayers as well?
As I stated, I’m sure Rep. Rosa is a decent man. I humbly suggest however, that rather than attacking my organization, he might be better served explaining his voting record to his constituents.
