Every once in a while the Democrats say something so profoundly stupid that it makes me pause. I remember when Marcia Coakley said “It’s not illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts”. It was this statement that made me realize that in a Democrat’s head things do not register quite right. Things are upside down and backwards. Its almost as though they were shaken as babies and their brains turned around inside their heads.
Well yesterday it happened again. Our esteemed Golfer-In-Chief made the statement that ‘ISIL is not Islamic”. So I thought about it for a moment realizing that the acronym ISIL actually stands for ISLAMIC state of Iraq and the Levant. Could Obama be this far off of reality? Could it be that the guy we authorized to have access to the black box and nuclear codes could be so backwards in his thoughts?
A quick glance at wikipedia states this:
The Islamic State (IS) (Arabic: الدولة الإسلامية ad-Dawlah l-ʾIslāmiyyah), formerly the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL ˈaɪsəl; Arabic acronym: داعش Dāʿish) or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS ˈaɪsɪs),[a] is a Sunni jihadist group in the Middle East. In its self-proclaimed status as a caliphate, it claims religious authority over all Muslims across the world
I realize that Wikipedia is not the end-all in research, but it generally provides a good starting point. Perhaps a better source of real journalism would be the Associated Press, which had this to say just 2 days ago while trying to explain in the Washington Post the difference between ISIS and ISIL: http://www.washingtonpost.com/…
While the government has been choosing between ISIS and ISIL, many news organizations have been making similar decisions in their style guides. Last month, the Washington Post decided to refer to the group as the Islamic State, after the group itself declared that its ambitions outstripped Iraq and Greater Syria. Several other news organizations have also made the switch, including the Associated Press, as Poynter reported.
About a month ago ISIL changed its name, so our approach is to refer to them on first reference simply as “Islamic militants,” “jihadi fighters,” “the leading Islamic militant group fighting in Iraq (Syria), etc.” On second reference, something like “the group, which calls itself the Islamic State,” with “group” helping to make clear that it is not an internationally recognized state.
So journalists, who seem profoundly more in tune with the current situation than the Obama administration state flat out that ISIL is “Islamic militants’ and ‘the leading Islamic militant group fighting in Iraq’. Furthermore these journalists have agreed that ISIL is an Islamic state. Another assertion that Obama has denied.
So Obama, I ask you, if these Islamic militants are not Islamic then what exactly are they? Christians? Republicans? Tea Party members? Lobbyists? The 1 Percenters? What are they?
Isn’t Obama being briefed at the golf course these days? Earlier this year Obama referred to ISIS and/or ISIL as the JV team that was not to be taken seriously. Now Obama is making a prime time broadcast to reassure the American people that the world is not soon to end as it appears from all the news agencies. This is the same Obama that just a week or more ago had no time to formulate a strategy for this rag-tag bunch of terrorists. Today he is forced off the 14th hole and into a suit and tie.
Upside down and backwards. The Obama view of the middle east since taking office has been all over the board, and much of it was led by the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. I certainly hope when Hillary gets ushered by the press into the corner office they at least have the guts to have asked the question “Tell us where you really stand? How long will you hold that view?”.
And lastly, what was with the campaign speech about 12 minutes into the ISIL speech. Suddenly Obama was talking about how the USA is united and together on this. Not only that but we are a leading force in technology and business:
Our technology companies and universities are unmatched. Our manufacturing and auto industries are thriving. Energy independence is closer than it’s been in decades. For all the work that remains, our businesses are in the longest uninterrupted stretch of job creation in our history. Despite all the divisions and discord within our democracy, I see the grit and determination and common goodness of the American people every single day, and that makes me more confident than ever about our country’s future.
Clearly someone accidentally inserted a paragraph from a campaign trail speech into his ISIL speech. Or does ISIL really care about job creation and the auto industry? Again, upside down and backwards…
