Those of you who saw me at the MassGOP convention noticed a pretty intense limp. I tweaked my knee about a month ago and it is slowly getting better. Naproxen is working well to quell the pain. That’s why the news recently released is shocking. According to the Massachusetts Prescription Monitoring program, 40% of Massachusetts residents have been prescribed opiates.
According to statistics published by The Herald News, 40 percent of Commonwealth residents have received a prescription for opiates.
Massachusetts numbers follow a nationwide trend. From 1999 to 2010, opioid pain reliever sales quadrupled, according to a 2013 report by the Centers for Disease Control.
In some communities, the prescription rate is higher. According to The Herald News, 72 percent of Fall River residents have received a prescription for opiates.
Repeated requests to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for prescription rates for other communities were denied.
This is just amazing.
