As a native Granite Stater I had to chuckle at this:
The poll also asked people to speculate why 75 percent of GOP voters weren’t backing Romney. Here are the reasons people gave: because of his Mormon religion (16 percent); flip-flops on issues, his health care plan and too many other candidates right now (all 10 percent); not conservative enough (9 percent); he is boring and people are unsure of him (both 3 percent); and not a real Republican and because he is from Massachusetts (both 2 percent).
As a young lad growing up in the White Mountains, we had a popular t-shirt emblazoned with the saying, “I Ain’t No Flatlander”. It was a badge of honor and a little jab at the Massholes who came up North with their tourism dollars and generally made our life hell (even though they do spend a lot of money).
So I giggled a little when I read 2% of NH voters polled don’t support Mitt because he’s from Massachusetts. And I could only surmise that the respondents who chose this option live north of Lake Winnipesaukee.
