Barney Frank (D-Newton) To Retire

I am sure the Legislature was happy to hear this now. After months of hoping one incumbent would retire, John Olver (D-Amherst) finally was pushed out. Now, a second Democrat, Barney Frank, will follow suit.

Looks like he will announce this later today.

This is a tough seat for a GOP pick-up but it was definitely weakened in redistricting, which may have caused Frank’s retirement. Frank visibly aged through the tough 2010 contest with Sean Bielat, and likely was not looking forward to another contested race.
