Time To Curtail The EPA At Hand

                                 By: Edward P. Shallow

The EPA is the biggest detriment American business has to confront. If American business is to survive, the EPA has to be curtailed. Alternatively, if I had my way, abolished altogether and left up to Congress to issue any further regulations that will not hurt our economy. Otherwise, the EPA will continue their assault on business.

Bernie Marcus co-founder of Home Depot says Home Depot “would never have succeeded” if it launched today due to onerous regulations.  Marcus went on to indicate: I can tell you that today the impediments that the government imposes are impossible to deal with. Home Depot would never have succeeded if we tried to start it today. Every day you see rules and regulations from a group of Washington bureaucrats who know nothing about running a business. In addition, I mean every day. It is becoming stifling.

In addition, this from the man who played a major role in revitalizing Las Vegas is bashing President Barack Obama as “the greatest wet blanket to business, progress and job creation in my lifetime.”

Speaking recently to investors on a conference call, casino developer Steve Wynn–calling himself a “Democratic businessman” — went on a rant against Obama and his policies.

His customers and the companies he works with “are frightened of this administration,” he said, “and it makes you slow down and not invest your money. Everybody complains about how much money is on the side in America.”

Until we change the tempo and the conversations from Washington, it’s not going to change,” added Wynn. “And those of us who have business opportunities and the capital to do it are going to sit in fear of the president. Moreover, many people do not want to say that. They will say, ‘God, don’t be attacking Obama.’ Well, this is Obama’s deal, and it is Obama that is responsible for this fear in America.

If we could open up the National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska, the U. S. Geological Survey estimates there is 7.7 billion barrels to be realized, think how many thousands of jobs that would create. You have to ask, why we are not going after it, especially considering the people of Alaska are in favor. The answer of course, the EPA is the culprit.

Another factor every American citizen should be concerned with; do not be surprised to see your electricity bill jump 40 to 60 percent in the near future. Pending EPA regulations are prompting some coal-fired power plants to close and more energy that is expensive will likely fill the cap. At present, coal fired plants provide nearly fifty percent of our electricity.

Freedom Works recently advised me: The Obama Administration’s EPA has been working to enact a backdoor cap and trade scheme through greenhouse gas regulation that would further drive up already sky-high energy costs.

Freedom Works members have sent over 153,000 letters and emails and made over 2,300 phone calls urging targeted lawmakers to pass legislation that would put a halt to EPA’s cap and trade nightmare. This groundswell of grassroots pressure has helped push the House to pass H. R. 910 — The Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011; legislation that would strip EPA of its ability to use the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gasses.

Given that the Democrats control the Senate it is unlikely they will pass the legislation that would, if passed, create thousands of new jobs.

If not passed, Conservative leaders in Congress need to advise voters the following actions that EPA has undertaken and that threaten to costs millions of American jobs and billions of dollars in lost GDP.

New taxes that will influence thousands of businesses–large and small…By increasing complicated regulatory standards, the EPA are hitting American Businesses with a brand new tax. Facilities ranging from factories to churches that cannot afford to upgrade their equipment would be forced to close!

Massive new regulatory taxes on electricity…Expensive new standards targeting coal fired power plants (as previously mentioned) would raise costs for consumers and businesses. Billions in new costs would be passed on to energy consumers and the energy security of millions of Americans would be put in serious jeopardy!

Costly new restrictions on cement plants, Southern Methodist University study estimates in excess of 15% of plants would be forced to close, costing thousands of jobs.

New regulations on emissions that would force many communities to impose costly new restrictions on consumers and small businesses… New ozone standards would put many out of reach, triggering extensive new regulations that would have sweeping and devastating new economic consequences affecting virtually all consumers and businesses with new standards for everything from car tailpipes to factory smokestacks—and everything in between!

If steps are not taken to prevent EPA from pursuing this agenda, the Obama EPA nightmare will become a reality for American consumers, businesses, and the economy as a whole.
