“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” – Matthew 7:3 (American Standard Version)
While I agree with the basic premise of the two posts penned by Rob “EaBo Clipper” Eno titled “Culture Of Corruption: You Get The Government You Work To Elect” (parts 1 & 2), I also agree with the initial response in part 2 given by ConsEph who finds it “distressing that Rep (Brad) Jones advocates for the status quo” in the political culture of Massachusetts.
Long-time RMG readers know I’ve often argued that the Massachusetts Republican Party suffers from a lack of genuine leadership. Here’s a sample of a critique I wrote over two years ago:
“The public has a low expectation of how the GOP performs its political passivity & its members usually manage to live up to the negative stereotype of their party. The above response is typical: “We (The GOP) will wait for You (The Democrats) to do something.” And if the Democrats refuse to be proactive on the terms laid out by the minority party? Well, then, the GOP will go through the motions of bitching & moaning. The Democrats are in on the joke & so is the public. Only now are grassroots Republicans coming to grips with the nature of said joke – & they’re not laughing once they understand that the joke is on THEM & their political principles.”
Of course if Republicans lack the courage of their convictions, you can count on some of them to act as Democrat enablers of the status quo:
“The Massachusetts Republican Party currently offers no counter-paradigm. Thus the Democrat paradigm continues to hold sway. As it does, said paradigm takes on the patina of “reality”. So much so, that members of the minority party on Beacon Hill feel compelled to support it through targeted appropriations on items that they allegedly believe (or are brainwashed to think) transcend partisan politics. These Republicans wind up becoming the useful idiots for the Democrats first by undermining the GOP & secondly by reinforcing through their votes the “reality” of the Democrat paradigm which they themselves help to sustain.”
Yes, it may be fun to tweak the folks at BMG over the Frankenstein monster they helped to create (& at times sustain) but the joke’s really on RMG in particular and Republicans in general when the state GOP is content to play the part of a ideologically clueless Igor against the mad New Left political scientists who (in conjunction with the DINOs) run the Democrat Party – & Massachusetts.
