Just got the latest weekly email from the state party. Read about the Mass GOP Summer BBQ. Apparently Attleboro has some considerable pull.
This is not a dig at the Attleboro RCC by any means. They do great things for the Party. This is just to point out that for the second straight event the Reading RTC can’t even get a reply from someone, anyone, at the State Party (except our Committeeman Al Turco) to our invitation to attend.
This time it’s a joint Family BBQ with Lynnfield, Melrose, Stoneham and Wakefield. Big crowd expected. Richard Tisei, Donald Wong and Charlie Baker were invited and are coming. Michelle McPhee is coming and signing books.
One might think that someone on Merrimack St. would want to make an appearance. Guess not.
This is not sour grapes on my part. This is a problem. Party leadership needs to get out of Boston, the South Coast and Worcester County. Get to the areas that could use some encouragement and assistance. We may not be home to a vast swath of Republican activism that the aforementioned are, but we’re trying to build something here. Hell Richard Tisei served our district for 20 years. Charlie won Reading by 11%. The House Minority Leader serves parts of these towns.
If party leadership can’t attend, that’s fine. At least have the courtesy to reply to the invitation.
P.S. If anyone’s interested it’s the Middlesex-Essex GOP Family BBQ. Tomorrow from 1-4pm at the Saugus Elks, 401 Main St. Bouncy house and cotton candy for the kids. Catering by Dockside in Wakefield. Rain or shine (we’re covered by a BIG tent). $25/person, $50/family. Tickets available at the door. Proceeds will help our respective committees help our candidates in 2012. We’d love to see you there.
