Sometimes Its The Little Things

There has been ongoing discussion about what works and what does not work with the Mass GOP.  There have been many critiques and many substantive suggestions for improvement.  With the election of the Chair coming in a little over a month, I hope the State Committee members will take many of the points of the previous posts into account when considering both who should be Chair and what strategies and tactics need to be considered for success going forward.

My point of this post is to highlight how the little things can add up to make some feel unwelcome by the Mass GOP.  I know this may be picky, but the Mass GOP Holiday Party struck a nerve today when I received my Facebook reminder of the event.

The reminder included the following:

Come join Chairman Jennifer Nassour and the Mass GOP to ring in the Holiday Season on Tuesday, December 14th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The event will take place at Jonnie’s on the Side (below the GOP HQ) in Boston.

Food will be provided, and a cash bar will be available at the event.

Tickets to the event are $35/Person or $25/Person with 2+ canned goods.

We hope to see you there!

Well, a holiday party to ring in the New Year in Boston on a Tuesday night from 5:30 – 7:30 seems a bit limiting to me.  I work not far from there, but there is no way I can make a 5:30 start without closing early so I won’t be going.

Then I got to thinking, what about the people from the North Shore?  What about the people from the South Shore?  What about Worcester and Worcester County?  Plymouth County? Bristol County? The Cape?  It will be very hard for any of these folks to make a 5:30 – 7:30 party in downtown Boston.

Then it struck me,the only people assured of being able to make it easily to this party are the office staff.  They certainly deserve a holiday party, but the way this one is being “adevertised” left me wondering if the folks in the Mass GOP office really want to make it easier to attend the party and build on relationships started over the last year (or older) or meet new people.  This party is certainly not set up to do that.

I know, picky, but the time, location and date send a message.
