Only in Massachusetts would the The Executive Office of Labor & Workforce Development release such a statement.
The Executive Office of Labor & Workforce Development reported this morning that the total unemployment rate fell to 8.4 percent in September, down from 8.8 percent in August – the steepest drop in the rate since January 1976.
Preliminary September job estimates show 3,175,900 jobs in Massachusetts, a decrease of 20,900 jobs.

The September job losses follow revised August numbers. Instead of a 2,100 job gain, the state lost 3,000 jobs in August.
