Cahill Calls on Baker and Patrick to Support
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s Visit to the Commonwealth
Today, Massachusetts State Treasurer and Independent candidate for Governor Tim Cahill called on Governor Deval Patrick and Charlie Baker to join him in support of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s efforts to crack down on illegal immigration in her state.
“Governor Patrick and Charlie Baker need to stop putting their fingers in the wind like their friends in Washington and start applauding Governor Brewer’s efforts to crack down on illegal immigration in Arizona,” said Cahill.
“Governor Patrick should withdraw his support of the federal government’s lawsuit to interfere with Arizona’s efforts to enforce the law in its state and stop advocating for giving illegal immigrants benefits here in the Commonwealth. He should also reinstate his revocation of the Massachusetts executive order given by former Governor Mitt Romney to provide our law enforcement officers the proper tools to combat this problem in the Commonwealth.”
“Charlie Baker should stop trying to have it both ways, talking tough about illegal immigration while refusing to actually take a stand when the tough questions come up. He did this with healthcare; he’s doing it again with the important issue of illegal immigration. Massachusetts needs a Governor who is willing to tackle tough issues, not a Governor who sits on the sidelines praying he won’t be asked to take a stand.”
An article in this morning’s Boston Herald highlighted Treasurer Cahill’s sympathy for the Arizona Governor in light of the protests and attention her visit to the Commonwealth has caused.

“The illegal immigration issue perfectly demonstrates just how broken the two party system is. The Democrats want amnesty and driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants while the Republicans seek to avoid taking a stand and are hoping the issue just goes away. Both parties are looking after their partisan interests – it’s time for an Independent Governor who will look only after the interests of the people of Massachusetts,” said Cahill. “That’s what I will bring to Beacon Hill.”
