The Great GOP rallying Cry of 2010: Run Conservatives even in Massachusetts

The up and coming Congressional Elections are going to come down to how committed candidates are to Conservatism on the great issues that divide the country and whether or not Republicans have learned the lessons of the 2008 Presidential Election and the elections this year in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts which is as follows: You can win… if you run as a Conservative on all issues. And nowhere was this more apparent in the State of Massachusetts where Scott Brown ran as a Conservative and was rewarded with the mother of all liberal bastions, the Kennedy Seat because the administration refused to listen to Conservatives and the vast majority of the American people when it came to their opposition to Obama Care which they insisted on ramming though eventually anyway as Obama’s approval numbers went into freefall.

Nor did they listen to Conservatives when it came to their desires for across the board tax cuts for individuals and businesses that would create real jobs and stimulate the economy, not add to the deficit. And during his victory speech, Brown continued to refer to the Conservative rallying cry from a populous that had had enough with “a government that grants rights and privileges to enemies during war time and spends our tax dollars on lawyers to defend them instead of weapons to stop them”.

And they had had enough it was clear with political leaders who treated grand parents and veterans and average citizens standing up for freedom against intrusive and confiscatory government policies at tea parties and town meetings across the land as nothing more than a group of mindless thugs who now are even being compared to radical Islamic terrorists and militia groups that warrant swat teams being brought in during their rallies. This actually happened against a group of white haired grandmothers waving American flags and singing Patriotic songs in Quincy, Illinois last week (http://www.redstate.com/moe_lane/2010/04/29/swat-troops-against-an-army-of-grandmas/). And as Mayor Bloomberg of New York,  implied after the recently bungled attack in Manhattan, the terrorist was probably someone who opposed Obama Care and had them all looking for an angry white male, Tea Party member rather than someone who was trained in Pakistan by Islamic radicals.

And Conservatives have had enough with other liberal Republicans like Bob Bennet of Utah who went into office promising to cut the spending and leaves office having contributed to the fleecing of America with liberal Democrats and their partners in the mainstream media which has effectually marginalized the Republican Party which Erick Erickson from Red State goes into great detail about in his article The Great Disentangling Has Begun:  What Bob Bennett’s Defeat Means and What It Does Not Mean where he explains how Conservatives are disentangling themselves from the Republican Party by rejecting the big spenders of our party who are not prepared to stick to the Conservative line on reduced spending, tax cuts, smaller government, and limiting the powers of the federal government except when it comes to National Security where any measures that are necessary to keep us safe must be taken including beefing up the security of our borders. (http://www.redstate.com/page/2/)

And in my opinion this obligation to keep us safe also includes maintaining a society that is founded on the rule of law both at the local, state, and federal level as well as the enforcement of the existing Federal statute on immigration which is the present Conservative position on the issue and is stated as follows:

US Code title 8, Section 1325

Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or

(2) Eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers…shall, for the first commission for any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both

For years Rush Limbaugh has been saying when you back away from Conservative principles and positions you lose and when you take the conservative side of the issue, which in this case is that the United States is a nation founded on the rule of law then you win every time and no where will this be more evident than on whether the Republican Party  supports the efforts of the state of Arizona to deal with a problem that is clearly out of control because the Federal government has refused to implement its’ responsibilities on the issue for purely political reasons.

In fact President Obama’s latest strategy seems to be to distort the issues as he did last week when he presented a viewpoint that was clearly designed to divide the nation. The Arizona law does not single out a particular people on the basis of their skin color or the way they talk as the President shamefully stated, but whether they’re legal or illegal. The law does not attack law abiding immigrants. It attacks illegal immigrants and the President is distorting it. We are a nation of legal immigrants and have always taken great pride in that, and to suggest for one moment that Americans have invoked a strategy based on hatred and bigotry is an outright lie and the President knows it, but he doesn’t care.

The Cartoonish-like representative of the Massachusetts 4th Congressional District, Barney Frank,  didn’t care about the rule of law either when the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE) raided Michael Bianco Inc on March 6, 2007 in New Bedford, MA,  arresting illegal immigrants who were part of the “slave labor” force that was working on a federally funded contract to manufacture back packs and survival vests for the US Military while Barney either looked the other way or was tending to other matters like encouraging measures that would lead to our present financial demise with a wink and a nod to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.  Yet our shameful Congressional delegation and Governor spoke against the enforcement of our laws at photo ops with expressions of concern and emotion without so much as taking measures to see that poor dehydrated  children were given necessary supplements like baby formulae and other needed supplies while there parents were being detained and processed by the authorities.

Earl Sholley, Barney’s strongest Conservative opponent in the 2010 elections doesn’t believe, as Barney and Obama apparently do that bad behavior should be rewarded rather than punished. To them our present immigration policy is a racist policy which Barney has even stated would have resulted in the decimation of his family by Nazis if that policy had been implemented in Europe prior to World War II in an unparalleled distortion of the truth that makes Obama’s’ distortion pale in comparison.

Sholley also states on his web site at http://sholleyforcongress.us that he believes that our country is becoming unstable by allowing illegal immigration and wants to go after businesses that hire illegal immigrants and would expel any one who is here illegally and in violation of our  immigration laws unless there is a compelling reason for them to remain.

Sholley’s viewpoint is obviously in line with the Conservatives who will oppose amnesty through hell and high water this year and by doing so will attract independents, but if they cave and go for the vote of those who favor amnesty for the sake of attracting the Hispanic or other ethnic voters they’ll find themselves in the same position as Bob Bennet did last weekend i.e. out of favor with the conservative wing of the party which is in the process of taking the GOP back.

In closing I’ll just say that I don’t have the answer to all the tough questions we’re facing and immigration is certainly an issue that has a complex side to it mostly because it has been ignored for so long by shameful politicians. But my gut tells me that you can’t go wrong as long as we follow laws that don’t violate God’s laws. For example, If I  were living in Europe during World War II I would have had no choice to violate the law of the land by helping  people like Barney Frank’s family escape or help them find a hiding place because doing otherwise would clearly not be something God would approve of. However that is not the case with laws that are passed in a Democracy based on the rule of law and Judaeo Christian principles of civility. And it is certainly not the case here.

During my 26 years of Military Service I had the good fortune to live and travel all over the world, which gave me an opportunity to study other cultures. And I know for a fact that many peoples throughout the world live in countries where the police and public officials are corrupt. And they simply do not have the same respect for the laws as we do.

And anyone who has been to countries where the law is not respected and corruption is out of control like in modern day Russia as I have where the mafia runs the show and has seen the rampant sale of black market goods on all items including drugs  and weapons,  but that is not the case here as the majority of citizens in this country have a higher respect for the law than that. We also obey traffic lights here, unlike in Naples, Italy and when a particular constituency opposes laws that already exist regarding issues such as illegal immigration, or illegal drugs, or prostitution we don’t abolish them simply to get rid of the problem like those who favor the legalization of Marijuana as Barney Frank and even one of his Republican challengers  Sean Beilat of Brookline does who was quoted recently as saying “Frank, is not bad on that issue” (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/20/barney-frank-opponent-sea_n_470262.html)

I’m sorry Sean, but Barney Frank’s position on marijuana couldn’t be more foolish and more threatening to our culture and for someone who calls himself a conservative to adopt President Obama’s attitude to problem solving by simply legalizing it is very disturbing at the very least. And it’s the wrong year for any such talk because Conservatives are Cleaning House even in the state of Massachusetts as Scott Brown proved earlier this year and it’s time to disentangle themselves from a republican party that has clealry lost its way since Ronald Reagan won his party’s nomination on his third try which should give Earl Sholley reason to be optimistic and all true Conservatives reason to hope, as well .

About jazzpatriot

  • Both Earl Sholley and Sean Bielat have recently met with the Dartmouth Republican Town Committee over the past few months.

As a result, and although I was regretably at work during our meeting I was informed of what transpired earlier this evening, the Dartmouth GOP voted overwhelmingly if not unanimously to publicly endorse Sean Bielat for Congress in the MassGOP primary.

    Congratulations to Sean Bielat!

  • It has been obvious from the beginning that the main stream Republican party in Massachusetts was not going to support Earl Sholley because he is too Conservative for them. Open you eyes and see what is happening all across the country, The Rino’s are being tossed out like Bennet was last weekend. I’m not saying this kid Beilat isn’t a good candidate but in my opinion Sholley is much stronger when it comes to tenacity and comittment to the principles that made this a great country

  • …is that it, also, takes away from having even more decent GOP candidates at the state level and at the local level.
