Fresh off their false trumpeting of the Massachusetts Republican Assembly taking issue with Haley Barbour, which didn’t happen, team Cahill just got some more bad news. The two Iowa RNC members who earlier today signed a letter blasting RGA Chair Haley Barbour have recanted their support. Below is their press release.
Iowa RNC Committeeman and Committeewoman Ask to Have Names Removed from Letter Concerning Republican Governors Association and its Activities in Massachusetts
Scheffler and Lehman pledge support RGA efforts to elect Republican governors across the country
WASHINGTON, DC. – Iowa Republican National Committeeman Steve Scheffler and National Committeewoman Kim Lehman have officially asked to have their names removed from a letter asking Haley Barbour and the Republican Governors Association to cease its financial support for Charlie Baker, the Republican nominee for governor in Massachusetts.
Scheffler and Lehman said, “As members of the Republican National Committee and representatives of Iowa Republicans, we strongly support the efforts of Haley Barbour and the Republican Governors Association to support and help elect all duly nominated Republican candidates for Governor all across this country.
“We understand and respect that the one mission of the Republican Governors Association is to elect Republican governors and we look forward to working with them in helping to elect a Republican governor in Iowa this November.
“We are strong conservatives and signed a letter we initially thought would send a message of support for conservative candidates in our party. Upon further reflection, we understand this letter could be interpreted as meddling in the affairs of an independent Republican organization and we wish in no way to harm the efforts of the Republican Governors Association in the pursuit of its work.
“As such, we have asked that our names be removed from that letter and that we all unite to support Republican candidates all across this country,” concluded Scheffler and Lehman.
Also withdrawing from the letter are Kathy Terry (VA) and Ross Little (LA).
Man it’s hard out there to be a Cahill fan-boy.
