70 percent of Massachusetts residents polled want to stop giving public benefits to illegal immigrants.
A new poll released today by Rasmussen Reports shows Massachusetts residents overwhelmingly support an initiative by Jeff Perry to ban illegal immigrants from receiving public benefits.
Seventy percent of Bay State voters surveyed said they agree with the proposal, which Perry pushed during the recent House budget debate. The proposal, which was rejected in a 75 to 82 vote, would have prevented illegal immigrants from gaining access to public housing, unemployment benefits, welfare or workers compensation.
“Today’s poll shows that while many Massachusetts politicians are clearly out of touch with Bay State residents, Jeff Perry understands their concerns and is willing to take a stand on their behalf. Jeff has been pushing this law and order issue for several years, while others only talk about it,” said Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Pembroke).
The survey of 500 likely voters in Massachusetts was conducted on May 10 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
