Meas celebrates campaigning anniversary in 5th district

Got this a bit late but worth noting considering Mr Meas was in this race well before anyone thought a Republican could win here in Mass.

HAVERHILL, MA: Fifth Congressional District Republican candidate Sam Meas celebrated the anniversary of his candidacy by announcing he would campaign on a full time basis. “For the last twelve months I’ve traveled across the district and listened to the concerns of the voters,” said Meas. “I’m humbled by the support so many of them have given to my candidacy. So much so that I feel the best way to validate their trust in me is for me to run as a full-time candidate.”

Meas recently resigned his management position at State Street Global Advisors he held for the past ten years to campaign full time on April 2nd. Meas stated that he had banked up enough funds to sustain him for the remainder of the year but acknowledged that the move would be a personal sacrifice for him. “But isn’t that what public service is supposed to be?” asked the former Cambodian refugee. “America has made it possible for me to make my dreams come true. I’m grateful for this country. I want to give something back and I feel (being a congressman) is one way to do it.”

When asked if district-wide support had translated into something as tangible as money, the Haverhill resident cited the current recession as a drag on financial contributions. However, Meas stated that his campaign was attracting a lot of volunteers and that his team would utilize them as part of a strong grassroots organization. “These things take time,” he conceded, “but I’m confident we will attract more money and volunteers now that our foundation is established.”
