The poll, of 554 respondents statewide, has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.2 percent, and was conducted from Jan. 2 to Jan. 6. The voters were heavily screened for those likely to cast ballots in the special US Senate election Jan. 19. Given their interest in the Senate campaign, they are considered the most politically involved and aware in the state. The general election is expected to bring out a wider range of voters.
