The Boston Herald is reporting that Governor Deval Patrick will declare a state of emergency and appoint a replacement Senator 89 days before it may be constitutionally allowed.
Gov. Deval Patrick plans to announce his choice for an interim appointment to the late Sen. Edward Kennedy on Thursday.
Patrick’s office says the governor will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. at the Statehouse.
Expect lawyers for the MassGOP to be at the SJC when the doors open tomorrow morning seeking an emergency injunction to bar the Governor from appointing an interim Senator before December 23, 2009.
