I just wanted to give a quick update on the NY20 road trip. Its 5:35 am on Saturday February 7, 2009 and I’m about to leave Eastie to go meet Rob Willington of Rebuild the Party in Auburn, MA. We’re on our way to Troy New York to go to an Economic Recovery event with Republican candidate for Congress Jim Tedisco.
Before I leave I wanted to share some encouraging news from the trip. According to the Scorecard Blog on Politico.com Jim Tedisco holds a substantial lead over his opponent.
The poll, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, shows that a 51 percent majority of voters view Tedisco favorably, while 13 percent hold an unfavorable impression. His 64 percent name identification is quite high for a first-time congressional candidate.
Tedisco holds an early lead over Democratic businessman Scott Murphy, who is largely unknown throughout the district. Tedisco leads Murphy, 50 percent to 29 percent.
But Murphy has the ability to quickly get his message out – he loaned his campaign $250,000 and already has about $600,000 cash on hand at the early stage.
“While Scott Murphy is unknown to district voters, his personal wealth and fundraising ability – he has already raised over $600,000 – provide him with the financial resources to make this race competitive,” said Tedisco’s pollster Patrick Lanne.
His opponent is wealthy. So what we need everybody reading this to do is click on the link on the top right, and donate $20 for NY20. Let’s take back the House, one seat at a time, and give Obama his first political defeat.
