On the heels of DraftCharlie.com launching yesterday, Charlie Baker told the Boston Herald that he is mulling a run for Governor.
But Baker noted that the economic meltdown and ensuing budget crisis have thrown monkey wrenches into the current administration’s plans.
“I think the dynamic here has changed in the past 12 months, and I think it’s hard for anybody to predict what that means,” Baker said.
Bay State Republicans, who have dwindled in numbers on Beacon Hill, have pinned their hopes on Baker, who is wealthy, charming, and worked smoothly in various Cabinet positions under Govs. William Weld and Paul Cellucci.
“Charlie would be the man to lead the party. I’m very high on Charlie Baker and I’ve been encouraging him to take a look at it,” said Cellucci. “I think he’ll make a decision this summer.”
Well it looks like Cellucci has taken his name off the table.
