With the resignation of House Speaker Sal DiMasi a vote is expected to today for his successor and it appears the Republicans will not play king maker. Minority Leader Brad Jones does not expect the Republicans to play a role in the election. “If you look at the math it appears that DeLeo has enough votes to win. I will be voting for myself as speaker,” Jones said in an interview with Red Mass Group. During the interview Jones said that he expects his fellow Republicans will do the same and not vote for either Democrat.
“We’ve had positive working relationships with both DeLeo and Rogers,” Jones added. Jones expressed surprise at the resignation of DiMasi so early in the new legislative session. “This is clearly a symptom of one-party rule in the Massachusetts Legislature. The Democrats have let the position of speaker gradually become more and more powerful,” he said.
