Gay man backed for Navy secretary
Foes cite ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’

Some top retired military leaders and some Democrats in Congress are backing William White, chief operating officer of the Intrepid Museum Foundation, to be the next secretary of the Navy — a move that would put the first openly gay person at the top of one of the services.
The secretary’s job is a civilian position, so it would not run afoul of the ban on gays serving in the military…
Should Obama choose William White as Secretary of the Navy?
This is kind of an interesting question here an I am interested as to what people think. We could potentially have a Secretary of the Navy be openly gay, while men and women serving in the military are not allowed to be. Technically, this would be a civilian post and he would not be subject to the military code of conduct.
How would it affect troop moral? I never served in the military and as such do not have any specific insight to answer that question.
Would doing this be hypocritical of our government?
I would love to hear everyone’s take on this.[poll id=”
