Poll: Gay Navy Secretary

Gay man backed for Navy secretary

Foes cite ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’

Some top retired military leaders and some Democrats in Congress are backing William White, chief operating officer of the Intrepid Museum Foundation, to be the next secretary of the Navy — a move that would put the first openly gay person at the top of one of the services.

The secretary’s job is a civilian position, so it would not run afoul of the ban on gays serving in the military…

Should Obama choose William White as Secretary of the Navy?

This is kind of an interesting question here an I am interested as to what people think.  We could potentially have a Secretary of the Navy be openly gay, while men and women serving in the military are not allowed to be.  Technically, this would be a civilian post and he would not be subject to the military code of conduct.

How would it affect troop moral?  I never served in the military and as such do not have any specific insight to answer that question.

Would doing this be hypocritical of our government?

I would love to hear everyone’s take on this.

  • it’s the Navy.

    ‘Nuff said, really.

    What’s that sound?

    Dinner bell in the Navy.

  • Festus Garvey

I’m not sure he’d be my first candidate for Sec of the Navy.  I’d like someone with a stronger policy background.  But he has clearly “earned his stripes” as a great supporter of the Navy and the men and women who serve.  (In fact, he’d be a better addition to the VA, given his background.)

But there should be no srguement that he has a track record that SHOULD allow him to be judged beyond his sexual orientation.  But I jnow that won’t happen.

  • To spit venom at me for simply citing a well documented news source.  I never did offer an actual opinion here, I only asked a question to see what people think.

  • Because I just checked and this story is also over there under this headline:

Obama May Nominate First Gay Navy Secretary

Just another example of the stunning hypocrisy of the left.  Bashing us for the exact some thing they are doing themselves.
