With Team Obama making plans to create virtual fireside chats for the new White House Administration to use as a way to get its message out to the voters (& bypassing the gatekeepers of the mainstream media), it’s clear that from a communications point of view the new president is taking his bully pulpit seriously. He’ll probably study (if he hasn’t already) the communication styles of such presidents as FDR, JFK, & Reagan before forging one of his own. Given Bush’s failure to be an effective communicator, I think Obama’s decision to exploit the internet for his own purposes is smart politics. Will this new communication approach work & help Obama move his agenda through Congress? We’ll see soon enough.
