This is the headline…

“Alaska panel finds Palin abused power in firing ”

then….

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A legislative committee investigating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has found she unlawfully abused her authority in firing the state’s public safety commissioner. The investigative report concludes that a family grudge wasn’t the sole reason for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan but says it likely was a contributing factor.

The Republican vice presidential nominee has been accused of firing a commissioner to settle a family dispute. Palin supporters have called the investigation politically motivated.

Monegan says he was dismissed as retribution for resisting pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor’s sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute.

So the investigation find there was an actual legitimate reasons to fire him, but since they don’t like that fact they say it was ‘likely’ a personal reason.

    Finding Number One

For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides

The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.

Facts are so inconvenient, aren’t they?

Now wait to see how Palin will try to spin “violation of the public trust” into “mavericky mavericked maverick!”

The nutty left will bray loudly about Finding #1, playing only to their idiot base in the desperate hope that indies and undecideds don’t actually read the report, it’s conclusions or it’s recommendations.

I’ve read both the report and Todd Palin’s sworn statement.

This affair clearly doesn’t merit the suffix “gate”.

A well done, 30 second ad could easily take this tempest-in-a-teapot and make the Palin’s look like heroes.

Who were hoping that this report would be the knife with which they could slit the political throat of Mrs. Palin, that awful unsophisticated, right-to-life, conservative woman with her rural upbringing and her (tsk) dreadful syntax.

A notable dearth of diaries about it over at the playpen. Though I’m sure we’ll see something now that I’ve blown the dog whistle.
