The New York Sun is reporting Barrack Obama’s campaign is backtracking after taking heat from both sides of the abortion debate regarding his vote on the Illinois Born Alive Act.
Indeed, Mr. Obama appeared to misstate his position in the CBN interview on Saturday when he said the federal version he supported “was not the bill that was presented at the state level.”
His campaign yesterday acknowledged that he had voted against an identical bill in the state Senate, and a spokesman, Hari Sevugan, said the senator and other lawmakers had concerns that even as worded, the legislation could have undermined existing Illinois abortion law. Those concerns did not exist for the federal bill, because there is no federal abortion law.
This is the same Barrack Obama who accused the nations largest Pro-Life organization (National Right to Life Committee) of “lying” after they pointed out his vote on the very same bill during the same aforementioned interview on CBN.
“They have not been telling the truth,” Mr. Obama said. “And I hate to say that people are lying, but here’s a situation where folks are lying.”
Obama became incredulous at even the suggestion that his “no” vote in the committee of the Illinois legislature that considered the state version of the Born Alive Act (which he Chaired) was signifigant.
He added that it was “ridiculous” to suggest he had ever supported withholding lifesaving treatment for an infant. “It defies common sense and it defies imagination, and for people to keep on pushing this is offensive,” he said in the CBN interview.
What truly “defies the imagination” is voting “present” on the final bill, something even Hillary Clinton attacked him for!
Senator Clinton accused him of lacking political backbone in voting “present” on a bill that, according to abortion rights advocates, undermined the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade.

Little did Obama know his own words would so quickly condemn him. He admitted what he did “defies common sense and it defies imagination.” In fact, it was heinous.
While the Obama campaign tonight finally admitted Obama has misrepresented his Born Alive vote all these years, it had the audacity to offer a ludicrous excuse, an excuse Obama himself contradicted only 24 hours ago, as he has for years, that “I would have been completely in, fully in support of the federal bill that everybody supported.”
As Ken Pittman noted earlier, this last Saturday, in a appearence at Pastor Rick Warrens Church Obama called the issue of when life begins a question that was “above his pay grade.”
I know something else that is above Obama’s pay grade.
