About VESuggestions

  • Alright, I may be slightly biased as my name was literally on the invitations but the subject says it all… yesterday’s Campaign 101 training school down here in Dartmouth that was put on by the Massachusetts Republican Party & sponsored by the Massachusetts Federation of Young Republicans was excellent!

We had nearly 2 dozen people in attendance and all seemed to both enjoy and to take a lot from the training.  While this was billed as a Southeastern Mass event hosted here in the SouthCoast we actually had “students” from as far as Taunton, Attleboro, Walpole, and Andover!  Furthermore, the students included several local elected officials, state legislative candidates, many Republican town & city committee members, College Republicans, representatives from a US Senate campaign, and activists on conservative causes that impact the entire Commonwealth!

We covered numerous subjects including, but by no means limited to, creating a campaign plan, voter identification, getting out the vote, fundraising, direct mail, opposition research, defending attacks, & the pros and cons of using the new media.

I want to thank MassGOP Executive Director Rob Willington, Finance Director Lyndsay Jones, Communications Director Barney Keller, & former Executive Director Vincent Errichetti for conducting the day long school (and to Vincent for bringing both breakfast & lunch)!

Since I’m thanking people I should extend my public appreciation to the Town of Dartmouth and our Executive Administrator for providing the Select Board Meeting Room, free of cost, for our use (and this is despite the Administrator being a Democrat!) and coming down to open up & then close down the building for us on a Saturday.

This wasn’t the first Campaign 101 School put on by the MassGOP & MYFRs and I certainly hope that it will not be the last!  I’m very pleased that the MassGOP & MFYRs selected both the SouthCoast, my district, and my hometown in particular, to host this event.  Here’s hoping that they continue to spring up across the Commonwealth!

BTW – I also should thank Phil Paleologos, not only a great conservative Republican activist & former candidate for Governor’s Council, but who is also the owner of the Shawmut Diner (943 Shawmut Ave in New Bedford) for an equally excellent dinner!  Vincent, Jacob Ventura (former Executive Director of the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans), and myself stopped by the Shawmut Diner in order to patronize a Republican business for a bite to eat.  Vincent just HAD to have some linguicia while in Portuguese-American capital of the USA and well, get the Athenian scrod & the fried ice cream… they’re to die for!

Finally, Jake celebrated his 21st birthday with us at the campaign school…now THAT is dedication!
