End Of An Era: Skip’s Restaurant To Close Down

According to the Lowell Sun (5-5-08), Chelmsford landmark Skip’s Restaurant has been sold by the Burliss & Gefteas families which have owned the business for 62 years. “We’ve got to move on,” George Burliss said as reported by the Sun. “The economy is so difficult now that the independent restaurant owner doesn’t stand too much of a chance of survival.” For political junkies of all stripes, Skip’s was the place to meet, hold court, plan campaigns, & so forth. The building’s post-WWII look largely remained unchanged over the years & provided a sense of continuity during a period of rapid change to many Merrimack residents who drove by the restaurant on Route 110. It will be greatly missed.

they sold the Ice Cream Stand. When I used to live in Chelmsford, I was over there all summer long, and there were always lines.

Couldn’t understand why they sold that. Now the whole thing is gone.

It will be greatly missed indeed.

Had my son’s baptism and my father-in-law’s 60th birthday party in the function room.
